Wula Djembe - Melina Special Piece - FS/FT

Wula Djembe Special Piece made of melina wood. It's in excellent, basically as-new, condition, even though it was 8 years ago when I ordered it. I had aspirations to take up the djembe (again), but never followed through. Now almost a decade later, the djembe wood has aged nicely, while I have aged not so nicely. The skin (the djembe's, not mine) is quite nice. It's just been waiting for a new owner to bring it to life and make music! The skin diameter is 13". The djembe weighs 17.8 lbs (according to Wula Drum when I ordered the djembe from them, I've never measured the weight myself), which makes it lighter and easier to carry than other woods such as lengue. I ordered a nice strap and cover (also made in Africa) to go with it. You can see the cover in the photo. The strap is not pictured but it's the same colors and pattern as the cover. With the cover you can keep the skin protected when not playing (or you can play over the cover for a little muted practice when quieter practice is desired, I suppose), and with the strap, you can play djembe while standing. The cover costs $35 and the strap also costs $35 in the Wula Drum site. I'll throw these in for free with the djembe. When I bought this djembe new from Wula, it was called Special Piece. I see on their site that now Special Piece djembes are heavier woods like lengue. For melina, they have Melina Select and Melina Classic. The Melina Classic has fairly basic pattern carving, while the Melina Select has more elaborate carving that correspond more with my Special Piece. So I think this Special Piece is same or similar to the Melina Select, and have priced this djembe accordingly. The Melina Select currently sells for $600 at Wula Drum site. I've kept the djembe in an LP djembe bag (available separately), so it's been well protected during its stay with me. I'm focusing more guitar and bass over percussion these days, so if you have a guitar or bass to offer in a trade, let me know. Maybe also could be open for a nice didgeridoo (yidaki). If you want to save a little on the purchase price, I would also accept a bongo drum head (macho size), because one of my bongos has the macho skin split and I could use a replacement head.
